Do you provide 24-hour service?

With more than 25 years of experience, we understand that customers who receive exceptional service from friendly, professional technicians are happy customers. That’s one of the reasons we don’t offer around-the-clock service. While we will take true emergency calls, we believe strongly in giving our technicians time to rest, recharge and be with their families. Overworked, exhausted employees aren’t able to do their best work with a pleasant attitude. Safety on the road and in your home is essential and exhaustion is common during hot temperatures and long days.

Emergency services are available to existing customers only in certain situations:

  • Equipment we recently installed has quit working.
  • Temperatures are extremely warm, and your only HVAC unit has quit working.
  • Water is flooding the house from a busted pipe or overflowing HVAC drain.

If you are an existing customer with an emergency situation, please call 843-518-1479.

Do you offer financing?

Financing is available. Please contact us at 843-518-1479 to discuss your options.

What is your COVID safety policy?

We take your safety and the safety of our team very seriously. Our vehicles are sanitized regularly. Our team members practice social distancing, and they sanitize their hands before coming into your home. They also wear masks. Gloves and floor savers are worn as needed or by request. Touchless invoicing and payments are available.

Please let us know if someone in your household is ill, and we will promptly reschedule your appointment.

Why do you provide options vs. repairing a broken part?
At 1st Choice, we believe in giving customers choices so they are properly informed to make the best decision. Do you want just one option: have the repair completed, get the system working and hope nothing else fails? Do you want to go for a better choice and not only fix the failed part but also other parts that may fail soon? Would you like to have an even better choice to fix what failed, prevent another potential failure, and restore capacity while giving you better air quality and system protection? We present all these choices so you can determine what’s best for your home and budget.
Should I replace my entire HVAC unit?

We will be upfront with you about whether it’s time to replace your unit or if it still has a few good years left. Some benefits of replacing an older HVAC unit are:

  • Save money on your electric bill with a new, more efficient system.
  • Your home will be more comfortable.
  • The equipment will be up to date and quieter.
  • You’ll have the peace of mind knowing your unit is new and has a warranty.
How long should my HVAC unit last?

On average, a unit lasts about 10-15 years. But here in the Lowcountry, the salt air significantly shortens the lifespan of a unit. A homeowner on the Isle of Palms or Sullivan’s Island might only get seven years out of a typical HVAC unit. The salt is hard on units, causing corrosion, electrical failures and premature deterioration.

Do I really need to have my A/C and heating unit serviced?
Regular HVAC maintenance gives you peace of mind and extends the life of your unit and, in many cases, can restore lost capacity. Salt, dirt and debris on and in the system contributes to breakdowns and makes the unit less efficient.

Just as you take your car in for an oil change every 5,000 miles, your A/C and heating unit needs cleaning and proper maintenance twice a year.
With a service agreement, we’ll give your system a thorough inspection and drain cleaning two times a year. We’ll go over any immediate or upcoming repairs or cleaning needed and let you know the overall condition of your system. You also receive 15% off any repairs, and your job is a priority even during the busiest of times.

What should I do if my system stops cooling or heating?
If your system stops cooling or heating, you should turn your thermostat to the “off” position and turn the fan to the “on” position. Then contact us to schedule an appointment. This ensures we can get right to work on the system when we arrive and not have to wait for frozen coils to thaw or a hot compressor to cool down.
What are some things I could check before placing a service request?
  • Check for a display on the thermostat and, if applicable, the batteries.
  • Check for air flowing from the vents.
  • Look for water in the drain pan and a tripped safety switch.
  • Check to see if the fan turns on the outdoor unit or if you hear it running.
  • Look for ice on the freon lines.
  • Check the air filters.
  • Check the breakers.
